Medication Administration Training (MAT)
Chinese-American Planning Council Inc. Asian Child Care Referral Program
(CPC-ACCR) is pleased to inform you that our Medication Administration Training (MAT) is now available for the child care providers who are interested in becoming certified to administer medication in their child care programs.
What is MAT?
MAT is a competency based course approved by
the New York State Office of Children and Family
Services (OCFS) to train the child care providers
to safely administer medication in their programs.
Who should take the MAT course?
Child care providers who choose to administer medication:
- Family and Group Family Day Care Providers;
- Day Care Centers;
- School-Age Child Care Programs;
- Legally-Exempt providers paid by public funds.
Effective January 31, 2005, child care providers
who choose to administer any medication
(with the exception of over-the-counter topical
ointments, sunscreen lotion and topically applied insect repellent), are required to successfully
complete the OCFS approved MAT.
Does the training count toward my total of 30 hours of training?
Yes, the MAT course is an 8 hours of training, which will count toward the 30 hours of training of family child care provider.
Is there any funding available to help providers pay for this training?
Yes, New York State Office of Children and
Family Services will provide funding (MAT
Grant) for eligible providers to help off-set
part of the cost of the training.
How long is the MAT certification valid for?
The MAT certification is valid for three years
from the date of issuance. However, if the
provider or employee cease to work in a child
care program for a continuous period of one year,
the certification will automatically lapse.
